Vitamix reference
Vitamix replacement containers
Compare current container options after confirming the one that fits your exact Vitamix machine.
Concise answer
Start with compatibility, then choose capacity and container type. A 48-ounce or 64-ounce wet container can replace an everyday blending container when it fits the machine. Dry Grains and Aer Disc containers are specialty additions, not ordinary wet-blade replacements. [1]
Check compatibility first
Capacity alone does not determine fit. Use the Vitamix compatibility reference to match the exact machine and container before choosing a size or feature.
Everyday wet containers
These six options are intended for everyday wet blending. Choose among them by fit, batch size, material, and SELF-DETECT needs rather than assuming every container with the same capacity is interchangeable.
- 48-ounce Stainless Steel Container — A non-reactive container for hot, cold, and acidic blends. [2]
- Classic 64-ounce Container — An everyday wet container for medium-to-large batches. [3]
- 48-ounce Container — An everyday wet container for medium batches. [4]
- 64-ounce Low-Profile Container with SELF-DETECT — An everyday wet container for large batches. [6]
- Low-Profile 64-ounce Container — An everyday wet container for large batches. [7]
- 48-ounce Container with SELF-DETECT — An everyday wet container for small-to-medium batches. [8]
Specialty containers
Dry Grains and Aer Disc are additions for different jobs, not ordinary wet-blade replacements.
48-ounce or 64-ounce?
Vitamix positions the 48-ounce wet options for small, medium, or medium-size batches, depending on the container. Its 64-ounce options are for medium-to-large or large batches. There is no universal household-size cutoff, so use the kinds of batches you actually make after confirming fit.
What SELF-DETECT changes
On the supported Smart System or Ascent machines identified by the product pages, SELF-DETECT can recognize a container and adjust settings for its size. The label alone does not prove every machine/container pairing, so check the compatibility reference first. [6] [8]
Lids and tampers matter too
Lids and tampers are separate fit questions. Do not assume they interchange across container styles, types, or sizes; use the compatibility reference when checking them. For the separate-container warranty context, see the warranty guide.
What to check before choosing
- Your exact machine.
- The exact container name.
- The capacity you need.
- Whether you need an everyday wet or specialty role.
- How SELF-DETECT behaves with your machine.
- The included lid and tamper.

Common container-choice questions
- Will this container fit my machine? Use the compatibility reference.
- What coverage applies to a separately sold container? Read the warranty guide.
- Does the same capacity prove the same fit? No; check the exact machine and container pairing first.
What the official pages do not decide
They do not decide which compatible size is personally best for you or whether a specialty container is worth adding. Those are choices about your own recipes, batch sizes, and priorities.
